All the Sweet Places You Must Go - Vancouver Edition

Last month we left 'The Rock', as we like to call it, and stayed a couple days in Vancouver to celebrate a friend's birthday and just hang out.

Every where we go, I drag the family to various places in the name of research.

So this is the All the Sweet Places You Must Go, Vancouver Edition!

I highly recommend checking out these places if you are a chocolate lover, ice cream fanatic, or a baked-goods fiend like me.

Beta 5

BETA5 is a contemporary and innovative chocolate and pastry shop in Vancouver. They were named as One of North America’s Top Ten Chocolatiers.

They are located in this non-descript warehouse area by the central bus station. If you see a bunch of food trucks parked then you are at the right place.

This is our second time to Beta 5 but it's the first time I've had their cream puffs. And OMG, they are THE BEST cream puffs you will ever have. My daughter had the neapolitan eclair, I had the pina colada puff and hubby had the spiced mango. I liked his better than mine as it was lighter and fluffier cream. And of course, my daughter wouldn't even let me try a tiny bite of hers but it was SO beautiful.

Earnest Ice Cream

Earnest has two locations, with the Quebec location only a few blocks away from Beta 5. They are a small batch ice cream house that experiments with foraged ingredients like fresh spruce bud and elderflower and features rotating seasonal flavours alongside the classics.

We bought a pint of salted caramel for dessert and it hit the spot.

Don't be afraid of the line-up outside. If there is one it moves fast but it also can be people lingering outside to eat their cold confection.

Thomas Haas Chocolates

Thomas Haas has been singled out as one of the Top Ten Pastry Chefs in America by Chocolatier and Pastry Art and Design magazines and saw his star further rise when he made several appearances on Martha Stewart Living, and other international television shows.

We popped into his Kitsilano shop after we visited (and broke the bank at) Kids Books (side note: the best kids book store there is!). We bought a few chocolate 'tasters' which we ever so smooth, delicate, and beautiful. If you love good chocolate, then Thomas Haas is the place to go.

I have also met someone for coffee here and the Pain au Chocolate is to die for.

Candy Meister

I recently started carrying Candy Meister candy in my Shoppe but I stumbled across their candy truck outside the Kitsilano Capers a couple years ago. I'm actually not sure if they still operate the truck, especially in the warm summer weather, but they are usually parked around Kits - either outside the Capers or at Kits beach. If you see it, it's definitely a must-visit spot.

Candy Meister candy is gluten-free, dairy-free, corn-free, vegan, all-natural colours & flavours hard candy. They will give you samples of the candy and you can choose from a huge array of pre-packed sweets.

Squish

I've written about both Sugarfina and Karameller candy stores before, but the new store on the scene is Squish.

Located in the mall level at the Hudson's Bay department store in the downtown core of Vancouver, Squish sells gummies crafted from the quality ingredients. Founded in Montreal in 2014, SQUISH is North America’s first artisanal candy store that specializes in over 100 flavours of awesomely delicious gourmet gummies.

If you are gummies fan, well, this is definitely a MUST VISIT.
